PE – Sport and SAPSASA

Edwardstown Primary School offers specialist PE lessons to all students from Reception to Year 7. Some of the topics covered during the middle to upper primary years include: basketball, netball, soccer, football, hockey, lacrosse, athletics, basic gymnastics, dance, badminton, European handball, volleyball, cricket, tennis, softball, t-ball, rugby and minor games. Junior primary lessons focus on building the skills of: skipping, hopping, leaping, jumping, balancing, throwing & catching, hitting, kicking, bouncing, fielding, rolling & bowling as well as dance, gymnastics and running activities. Classroom teachers provide an extensive range of fitness activities as well as additional games for the students.

Whole school activities include Sports Day, coaching clinics from various sporting clubs, PE Week activities, swimming lessons for students from Reception to Year 5, aquatics sessions for Year 6/7’s and specialist sessions in gymnastics, tennis or dance.

Year 6/7 students often run lunchtime basketball, netball and soccer competitions for the other students in the school. Our French teacher runs a lunchtime petanque competition. Other lunchtime activities have included Hip Hop Dance, skipping and dancing in the Hall.

Edwardstown Primary has a very strong commitment to SAPSASA sporting activities. We offer participation in the following activities:-District Athletics Carnival, District Swimming Carnival, selection for district teams in football, netball, cricket, soccer and tennis, knockout teams in netball, cricket, soccer, rugby, basketball, tennis and Cross Country Running Championships.

A parent volunteer acts as a Sport Coordinator to manage our out-of-school hours sporting activities. Basketball runs all year round and is extremely popular. During summer we offer Kanga cricket, cricket and volleyball. During winter we offer netball, soccer and football.
